Beyonce is being sued by the estate of late artist Messy Mya, whose performance art was sampled without permission in her recent hit ‘Formation.’ The court rejected Beyonce’s motion to dismiss on the basis that digital sampling falls under the ‘fair use’ exemption in US copyright law. We’ll be sure to see an appeal, so keep an eye on this to-be landmark case and follow the debate on music sampling.
