Mabo Day

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the day the High Court of Australia handed down its landmark decision of overturning “terra nullius” and recognising native title in the Mabo case. Now, the 3rd of June is also known as Mabo Day and is the final day of Reconciliation Week. Mabo Day commemorates this historic moment in Australian and First Nation’s history and recognises the achievements of Eddie Koiki Mabo, a First Nations land rights activist and Torres Strait Island man.
